Portsmouth

A Historic Seaport & Popular Summer Tourist Destination: Welcome to Portsmouth, New Hampshire!

In 1774, in the lead-up to the Revolution, Paul Revere rode to Portsmouth warning that the British were coming, with warships to subdue the port. A historic seaport and popular summer tourist destination, Portsmouth was once one of the nation's busiest ports and shipbuilding cities. Portsmouth expressed its wealth in fine architecture. Portsmouth was also the home of the Strategic Air Command's Pease Air Force Base, later converted to Portsmouth International Airport at Pease with limited commercial air service and and very successful commercial office development.

The Piscataqua River, which is a tidal estuary with a swift current, runs along the perimeter of Portsmouth and forms a good natural harbor. It also makes for some terrific views for local residents and tourists who stroll through Prescott Park or visit the popular "Portsmouth Decks" for an evening of drinks and fresh seafood.

There are three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school serving Portsmouth residents. Portsmouth High School ranks 9/10 by www.greatschools.com.

Population: 21,485 | Median Home Price $468,250
Portsmouth's points of interest include: The Music Hall, Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse, Prescott Park, Seacoast Repertory Theatre, Strawbery Banke Museum and the Whaling Wall.
