So many opportunities to find holiday cheer this season. We offer you this year’s roundup of festivities for you and your family to enjoy.
On Saturday, December 19, Fire Chief Todd Germain will escort Santa on an official fire department ladder truck! The pair will take a ride on the big red sleigh through Portsmouth, NH to enjoy all the holiday decorations. Alert the kiddos so they can wave to Santa from their homes. Check out the route and estimated time Santa will be passing through each neighborhood.
This year, the Portsmouth Citywide Neighborhood Committee hosted a Holiday Lights Contest with more than 76 participants bringing light and cheer to brighten December’s days. Here’s the map of neighborhoods with decorated houses as part of the contest. Take a ride and vote on your favorite entries!
Everyone loves a scavenger hunt. There are 20 decorated gingerbread houses, lovingly made by local residents, in store windows downtown. Download the Gingerbread Hunt list here then go visit the Gingerbread Contest Exhibition in the Portsmouth Historical Society’s Discover Portsmouth Welcome Center.
Don’t want to leave the warmth of your home? Tune in to Michael McCormack’s live stream of the Christmas Tree in Market Square. Dubbed the Tree Cam, it’s live streaming right now from a great vantage point!
And don’t forget, the Portsmouth Rotary is once again offering holiday ornaments depicting key landmarks in the city, just like the non-profit has since 1984. The Christmas Committee selected the iconic Gilley’s Dinner as this year’s collectible brass ornament. Portsmouth Rotary will use 100% of the profits to buy restaurant gift certificates for wait staff throughout the city. The ornaments are $20 when purchased at the restaurants or $22 if purchased online, available right up until December 25.
